Chintz, a mordant-painted, printed, and resist-dyed cloth, upon reaching the Japan , made its mark and earned a new name and distinctive identity – Sarasa. The initial pieces that reached there were likely created for the Indonesian and internal markets. With trade flourishing through the Dutch East India Company, it acquired unique patterns and interpretations that echoed their cultural appreciation.
